‘Going out west’: Sweatt will run for Stanford

EDWARDSVILLE — Often times throughout a spectacular cross country and track career, Edwardsville’s Garrett Sweatt has ended the drama quickly by getting out to a fast start and running away from the field.

On Wednesday, Sweatt ended the drama of his college choice just as quickly.

Wearing a Stanford University shirt and a big smile, Sweatt, a five-time individual all-state runner, signed a national letter of intent to compete for Stanford beginning in the 2012-13 season.

Ranked sixth academically in a senior class of more than 500 students at Edwardsville, Sweatt chose the Cardinal over Illinois and Oklahoma.
