Don Samford has coached track and field for 28 years beginning in 1973 as boy’s coach at Saybrook-Arrowsmith High School and currently as girls coach at Eureka High School. Don’s Eureka teams have been a top ten State Finals team 12 times, the most by any Class A school. Eureka won the State Championship in 2002, runner-up in 2003 and 2008, and third place trophies in 2010 and 2011. Since 1996, in the high jump, Eureka athletes have won 11 state medals including 2 state championships by Megan Reese in 2001 and 2003. Megan’s winning jump in 2003 was 5’9”. For a school under 500 students, Eureka has had a remarkable 16 girls jump 5’1” or higher.
Brandon Heider - Brandon has had three different boys go above six foot in four years coaching the boys, and seven different girls go above five foot in five years coaching the girls.
