FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Southern Illinois throwers Jeneva McCall and Sasha Leeth earned NCAA All-America honors in the women’s weight throw the first day of the 2010 Track and Field Indoor National Championships.

U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Field Athlete of the Year McCall finished fourth in the event with a toss of 67-11 (20.70m). The sophomore scored five team points for Southern. Leeth, a senior in her final indoor championships, threw 64-04 (19.61m) for ninth place. Both throwers earned their first All-America honor.

Fellow throwers Rickael Roach and Gwen Berry also competed, Roach throwing 59-02 (18.03m) for 15th place, while Berry fouled out.

“It’s the first time we’ve had four in the competition and two in the finals,” Saluki head coach Connie Price-Smith said. “To have two All-Americans on the first day really speaks well of the program. We’re excited to compete again tomorrow.”

Saturday, Malaikah Love competes in the women’s pentathlon, J.C. Lambert will throw in the men’s weight throw and McCall and Berry will both compete in their second event of the meet, the women’s shot put.
